Q:I am interested in your web hosting, what do I do now?top
  • We recommend that you familiarize yourself with these frequently asked questions. We also require that you read our Web Hosting Policy, also referred to as our TOS or Terms of Service.
  • If you already own a domain that you would like to use for your account you can proceed to purchasing your web hosting plan. If you do not yet have a domain name you can click here for more information >
  • After your order has been validated you will receive your account information at the email address provided when ordering. This email address becomes the contact email address for your account and must be kept current. This can be done through your web hosting control panel.

Q:How long will it take to setup my web hosting account?top
  • You will receive a receipt and an automatic response immediately but most orders are processed in under only a few hours.
  • In addition to credit card verification we manually check all orders placed to prevent fraud. If an order is placed that does not check out 100% it is discarded and in cases of fraud, reported to the proper authorities.
  • We don't offer instant activation since it takes time to validate all orders but we do it because we take our clients and our services seriously.

Q:What is Web Space? (Disk Space)top
  • Web Space is an easy term we use to describe the amount of information your web hosting account can store. This is also known as Disk Space and is measured in Mega Bytes or MB.
  • Every text, image, sound and video file takes up a certain amount of space on the server.
  • When you run out and need more then it's time to upgrade to the next plan.

Q:What is Monthly Transfer? (Bandwidth)top
  • Monthly Transfer is another easy term we use to describe the amount of information your web hosting account is allowed to send and receive per month. This can also be referred to as Bandwidth.
  • Each time you get a visitor all of the files that make up your web site must be sent over to their computer. Information is exchanged both ways but the amount of information being sent to the visitor is much greater than the amount of information being sent to the server.
  • A visitors web browser usually remembers (caches) information that it has already downloaded. This can make browsing faster for the visitor and save your web site from having to repeatedly send the same content to them.
  • When you get close to exceeding your Monthly Transfer then it's time to upgrade to the next plan.

Q:What is a Web Hosting Control Panel? (CPanel)top
  • CPanel is a fully featured web-based control panel that allows you to manage your domain through a web interface. The idea is to transfer as much of the control and responsibility of managing your web site to you. You have the ability to manage all aspects of e-mail, files, backup, FTP, CGI scripts, and web site statistics.

Q:What is a Linux server?top
  • A server is typically a powerful computer which can handle loads much higher than even high-end consumer PCs. Servers are connected 24x7 to the Internet over a high-speed connection and monitored around the clock to keep them online, running properly, backed up, and secured from attacks.
  • "Linux" usually refers to the operating system, kernel, and thousands of open source software programs packaged together in what is called a distribution. Linux has very high reliability and excellent security, which are some of the reasons we use it on our servers.

Q:What is your uptime guarantee?top
  • We chose to provide a satisfaction guarantee; if you are not satisfied with your web hosting service then your next month is free. Downtime is something that can be minimized but not avoided. We will do whatever we can to minimize downtime and are dedicated to making sure you are satisfied with your web hosting experience.

Q:How will I know when I am close to exceeding my resources?top
  • So long as the contact email address you have set in your web hosting control panel is valid, the server will notify you (by email) when you have reached 85% or more of your accounts resource usage. You can also check your resource usage from within your web hosting control panel (Cpanel) at any time.

Q:How are the "plan estimates" for each web hosting plan calculated?top
  • The plan estimates help give an idea of what to expect from the resources you are provided. We use 50 KB as generic measure for a single page view; it's easy to work with and more accurate based on actual resource usage than many other hosts advertise.
  • We don't artificially inflate our numbers. With the increasing availability of high speed internet access and demand for web sites with dynamic visual content 25 to 35 KB for a single page view has become the exception more than the rule.
  • If you plan to host mostly text pages that are light weight on visuals you can get an idea of what to expect by doubling the numbers provided.

Q:Will I need to own my own domain name?top
  • Yes. You will need your own domain before we can complete setup of your web hosting account. If you do not have a domain name you can click here for more information >

Q:Can I purchase my domains from you?top
  • Absolutely. For only $18 per year with no minimum. Some registrars advertise lower rates but you must purchase anywhere from 2 to 10 years in advance to receive their savings. More Information >

Q:Will my web site have a dedicated IP address?top
  • No. You will be able to access everything you need by domain name or your servers shared IP. Your account will not come with any dedicated IP's, you can however contact us in order to arrange purchase a Dedicated IP for $2 per month. Dedicated IP assignment is subject to approval and availability.

Q:How do you handle Web Hosting Policy violations?top
  • You are responsible for everything that results from the use and existence of your web hosting account. This applies even if you have no direct involvement.
  • Our actions will be dependant on the severity of the violation. For minor violations we will make effort to contact you through the email address you provided at account signup; we are not required to contact you by any other means. In addition to email, attempting to contact by phone is at the sole discretion of Inf-inet Business Solutions.
  • You will be provided with an opportunity to resolve the issue. If the issue is not resolved or resumes at a later date your account may be suspended until all outstanding issues have been resolved. A third violation will result in immediate account termination.
  • In the event of account termination all access to the server(s) is immediately revoked. You are responsible for all data associated with your account. Inf-inet Business Solutions reserves the right to refuse access to it's servers for all accounts determined to be in violation of our Web Hosting Policy.

Q:Do you support ssh / telnet access?top
  • No. Ssh and telnet have been disabled for security reasons.

Q:Am I allowed to run a free email account service?top
  • For the sake of system resources and everyone else on the servers, no. Doing so will result in suspension of your web hosting account.

Q:Am I allowed to resell my account space, subdomains or addon domains?top
  • You are allowed to use the resources included with your web hosting plan however, we will only support the primary domain for your web hosting account. Please see our Reseller Web Hosting if you require multiple domain hosting for your clients.

Q:Is there a limit on the number of emails that can be sent per hour or day?top
  • Yes. In order to limit abuse a limit has been put in place and this number is not openly disclosed. Unless your account is intentionally being used to send large volumes of unsolicited emails (spam) then you will not be affected. All outbound email traffic is closely monitored. Using your account or the account of others to send out unsolicited or large volumes of email is not acceptable and will result in account suspension or termination. If you have legitimate reason to handle large volumes of email then you will most likely require services beyond the scope of basic web hosting.

Q:Does my web hosting come with web templates or a site builder?top
  • Your web hosting will not come with web templates or a site builder per se, but we do provide many alternatives such as Blogs and Content Management Systems that can be easily installed from your web hosting control panel, many of which can be more useful than site builders.
  • For a complete list see our Fantastico Preview (opens in a new window)

Q:Once I have web hosting how will I edit my web site and upload files?top
  • You can upload files by connecting to the server with your preferred FTP program or you can use the File Manager located in your control panel. Instructions for FTP are provided in your new web hosting account welcome email.
  • Frontpage extensions can be installed from your web hosting control panel that will allow you to use MS FrontPage to build and maintain your web site.
  • There is also a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) HTML editor in your control panels File Manager that allows you to build and edit web pages much the same way you would create and edit a MS Word document.

Q:Do you provide secure account logins?top
  • Yes. When you log in to Webmail or your web hosting control panel(s) your connection will be routed through the servers self signed security certificate which provides the full benefit of 128-bit data encryption.

Q:Do you support .ASP, .JSP, ColdFusion?top
  • We are monitoring the status of .JSP for CPanel and plan to incorporate support for .JSP in the future.
  • We have no plans to support .ASP and ColdFusion at this time.

Q:Do you provide web browser accessible email? (Webmail)top
  • Yes. You will have access to 3 WebMail programs: NeoMail, Horde and SquirrelMail. Which you use is a matter of preference.

Q:Do you allow custom MX entries for using a remote mail server?top
  • Yes however, aside from the MX entry no support is provided for the remote mail server.

Q:What are Domain Names, Subdomains, Addon Domains and Parked Domains?top
  • Domain Name - A name that identifies one or more IP addresses. For example, the domain name google.com represents many IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.inf-inet.com/index.html, the domain name is inf-inet.com. Because the Internet is based on IP addresses, not domain names, every Web server requires a Domain Name System (DNS) server to translate domain names into IP addresses.
  • Subdomain - Also called a child domain, a domain that is part of a larger domain name in DNS hierarchy. DNS hierarchy consists of the root-level domain at the top, underneath which are the top-level domains, followed by second-level domains and finally subdomains. For example, in the domain name addon.yourdomain.com, "addon" is a subdomain of the larger second-level domain "yourdomain.com"
  • Addon Domain - A domain that is parked on top of and directs traffic to a subdomain. Example: when addondomain.com is created it will create the subdomain addondomain.yourdomain.com and point to a folder under the domains web root called youraddondomain
  • Parked Domain - A Domain that points to another domain. Example: yourdomain.net, yourdomain.org and yourdomain.biz can be parked on top of and will point to yourdomain.com
